NO UPLOADS
Image bytes, document contents, descriptions and embeddings stay on your machine.
PRIVACY / LOCAL BY ARCHITECTURE
NOMEN works locally. Source files are never uploaded, imported into a proprietary library or moved from their folders.
NOMEN has a simple data path you can inspect, back up and rebuild. There is no hidden cloud catalog.
Image bytes, document contents, descriptions and embeddings stay on your machine.
Indexing does not require a NOMEN account or a remote processing service.
Files stay in the folders, drives and archive structure you already use.
Local catalog data can be cleared or rebuilt without changing source content.
Four visible layers: original files, a per-folder catalog, native metadata and an optional local vision model.
| Component | Purpose | Location |
|---|---|---|
| SOURCE FILES | Original images and documents. NOMEN reads them without moving them. | Your existing folders — unchanged |
<source>/__catalog__ | Local SQLite index, CLIP embeddings, cached VLM descriptions and extracted document text. | Inside the selected source folder |
kMDItemKeywords | Native searchable metadata consumed asynchronously by macOS Spotlight and Finder. | Extended metadata on each original file |
| OLLAMA | Optional local VLM runtime used for richer image descriptions and search terms. | Your machine — optional |
YOUR MACHINE / YOUR CHOICE
CLIP indexing works without Ollama. Enable a local VLM when you want more precise descriptions, then stop safely and unload it from memory.
